Boiler Impact Studies
Effect of Boiler Operation on Plant and SCR Efficiency Evonik Steag has the resources and long-term operating experience to evaluate the type of fuel used in the plant and to ascertain its effect on the operation of the entire plant and especially the SCR. This analysis is an integral part of our perpetual cycle of SCR management and will include recommendations of appropriate actions to be taken in order to avoid any detrimental effects on SCR system performance and/or catalyst activity.
Fuel Testing A thorough investigation of the fuel and its potential effect on the performance of the SCR, including the expected deactivation of the catalyst, would include a detailed analysis of the fuel including:
- Proximate and ultimate laboratory analysis
- Ash composition
- Ash fusion temperatures
- Mineralogy (XRD analysis)
- Trace elements (As, Hg, halogens, etc.)
- Water soluble compounds (Na, K, P, etc.)
- Interpretation and evaluation of the results on the basis of our extensive database
- Determination of ash particle size distribution on an as needed basis
- Evaluation of possible blending of proposed future fuels on an as needed basis.
Boiler Modifications Evonik Steag has the experience to evaluate modifications to:
-
Improve unit turndown so that the SCR system can be operated over a wider load range and flue gas flow distribution coming out of the boiler
-
Replace existing burners with low NOx burners to reduce SCR inlet NOx to allow for a reduction in unit emissions and operating costs (i.e. ammonia consumption)
-
Tuning to reduce or provide consistency in NOx emission levels.
